the car from the original owner in May, 1995 for $800.00. It had 38,000
miles on it.
The PO bought it from Gallo Volvo In Worcester Ma. in August 1978.
In 1983 he bought a new 242 turbo that had been totaled in an accident. He then transferred
the entire powertrain from the 83 242 into the 79 GT(sort of).
1986 his wife died. (she was the driver of the car) and it sat in his back
yard from 1986 to 1995.
He was going to give it to his daughter as a graduation gift. But the car had too many sad memories
for her so he put it up for sale.
needed tires, total tune up, cold start injector, CIS control box &
new harness, exhaust, gaskets,
belts, hoses. (let's face it, almost ALL rubber)
Within 6 weeks I had it road worthy & have been driving it daily since.*
I always thought Volvos were ugly, but admired their endurance.
never seen a 2 door 200 series until I saw a 1978 GT in a junk yard. I
told the person I was with
that "if I ever own a Volvo, that'd be the one" Little did I know that less than three years later I would
& it was a turbo to boot!
you're curious, the front air dam says "BORK BORK BORK" printed in reverse.
It's a quote from
the Muppet Show by the Swedish Chef. :)
*Until death did it part.
